This is a project which has been teased and tickled since 1980.
It will probably never be finished. Roughly 150K are in the can
with over 400 handwritten pages still on legal sized orange-yellow
sheets of paper to re-read and type into the computer. These sheets
were from a purchase of 1000 in a package when a giant Ottawa
stationary firm closed business in 1980 with a closing out sale,
and what a sale it was, none of this modern day (1998) style
'Giant Bankrupt Extravaganza' on all this weekend, 24 hours a
day until all stock is gone! shout the ads at you by the hour,
only to find the 'giants sales' are 80% of original price. Come
WOW for GIANT GIANT savings!' Sorry. Not me. No.
The stationer's close-the-door sale in 1980 was at 5 to 10
percent of sticker price. A stapler original price $125.00 I
still use picked up for 7 bucks. The 1000 sheets of quality
colored paper cost about a buck. Oh if only such days could
happen again.
